In-Vitro fertilisation (IVF) / Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI):
IVF (In vitro fertilization) is a procedure in which sperms are incubated along with the egg in the lab and fertilization occurs after injecting sperms into eggs.
ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) is a procedure in which good sperm are selected by an experienced embryologist under a very high magnification microscope and these sperm are injected into the egg. One sperm is injected into each egg and then placed in an incubator.
Recently ICSI procedure has evolved so much and with a lot of advancements. As one of the best IVF centers such as Boon IVF now prioritize ICSI over conventional IVF, enhancing our reputation as the best IVF clinic in India.
Indications of ICSI:
- low sperm count
- low sperm motility
- if there was a fertilisation failure with traditional IVF
- when frozen eggs are used
- for eggs matured in vitro (IVM)
- in case of TESA/ PESA sperms
Procedure:
Eggs are retrieved and the surrounding cumulus is removed. A semen sample from the male partner is collected. Good quality sperms are selected under a high-magnification microscope by an experienced embryologist. One sperm is injected into each egg and placed in an incubator. These incubators mimic natural body conditions and we wait for the embryos to develop for 3 days or 5 days. We place these embryos back into the mother’s womb in the same cycle (fresh embryo transfer) or at a later date after freezing the embryos (frozen embryo transfer). As one of the best IVF clinic in India, we follow strong protocols, process to ensure quality and trust are maintained.
Side effects or complications:
It is a very safe procedure with maximum fertilization rates if done by an experienced and skilled embryologist. ICSI has better fertilization rates than traditional IVF.
