Low sperm count:
If sperm count of a man is less than normal then he is said to have oligozoospermia
Reason for low sperm count:
There are various reasons for a fall in the sperm count: infections, a h/o testicular trauma, infections, varicocoele, genetic factors, exposure to severe heat, chronic smoking / alchohol consumption, obesity, hormonal factors etc.
Symptoms of low sperm count:
People with low sperm count can be suffering from infertility and can have hormonal imbalances. They can be asymptomatic too
How to diagnose low sperm count?
Low sperm count can be diagnosed by a semen analysis test which should be done within 2 to 7 days of abstinence. We need atleast 2 semen analysis reports done at 2 different times to confirm low sperm count
Impact of low sperm count:
This can have a significant impact on fertility potential of a male, can have decreased sex drive and decreased muscle mass. In some cases low sperm count can also indicate some underlying testicular damage and hormonal imbalances.
