What are fibroids?
Fibroids or leiomyomas are noncancerous growths (of smooth muscle cells and fibrous tissue) in the wall of the uterus. They are mainly seen in the reproductive age group women.
Reason for fibroids?
The reason for a woman to develop fibroids is mostly unknown but it might be due to hormonal changes.
Symptoms of fibroids:
Fibroids can cause pain during menses, heavy bleeding during periods, a heaviness in the lower abdomen, lump like feeling in the lower abdomen, pressure symptoms, frequent urination, infertility and complications during pregnancy. Many women might not experience any symptoms.
How do we diagnose fibroids?
We can diagnose fibroids by physical examination and imaging modalities like USG and MRI.
